Caregiver’s Log, Saturday, April 21, 2018

by Samra Jones Bufkins

We’ve been having some new and difficult issues, which I may share in a longer future post.

Saturday was my birthday. Our friend Ted sat with Bill so I could spend a couple of hours at the Denton Redbud Festival.

It was raining, but I didn’t mind. Most of the festival was moved into the Civic Center. I got to spend several peaceful hours browsing exhibits, sampling local honey, taking some gardening classes, and picking up a new Texas redbud tree and several native plants for my hummingbird and butterfly garden. I watched the recycled fashion show of outfits made of trash and recyclable items.

I had pleasant conversations with adults who were not caregivers, doctors, nurses or social workers.

In other words, I got to be myself for half a day.

  1. You must remind yourself daily to take care of Samra while taking care of Bill. You should never feel guilty when you have a chance to enjoy some “you” time. I wish we lived closer so I could do more than simply donate to your fundraiser and send affirmations that often seem more like platitudes. You are well and truly the embodiment of a person living a saintly life.
