by Samra Jones Bufkins
We’ve been having some new and difficult issues, which I may share in a longer future post.
Saturday was my birthday. Our friend Ted sat with Bill so I could spend a couple of hours at the Denton Redbud Festival.
It was raining, but I didn’t mind. Most of the festival was moved into the Civic Center. I got to spend several peaceful hours browsing exhibits, sampling local honey, taking some gardening classes, and picking up a new Texas redbud tree and several native plants for my hummingbird and butterfly garden. I watched the recycled fashion show of outfits made of trash and recyclable items.
I had pleasant conversations with adults who were not caregivers, doctors, nurses or social workers.
In other words, I got to be myself for half a day.
Good for you, girl! I hope you can keep finding ways to do things that give you some pleasure!

You must remind yourself daily to take care of Samra while taking care of Bill. You should never feel guilty when you have a chance to enjoy some “you” time. I wish we lived closer so I could do more than simply donate to your fundraiser and send affirmations that often seem more like platitudes. You are well and truly the embodiment of a person living a saintly life.
